Édouard Marcel Sandoz Corbeau
Édouard Marcel Sandoz
1881 - 1971
Corbeau
1912
Patinated bronze
Signed Ed. Sandoz, inscribed Susse Fres. Edts. Paris and with the foundry's mark on the terrace
24,5 x 42 x 16 cm ; 9 ⅝ x 16 ½ x 6 ¼ in.
Condition Report:
Good overall condition.
The patinated bronze presents with a few surface irregularities inherent with the making process.
We observe areas of wear revealing the original colour of the bronze mostly on the head, the prominent parts and the tail, consistent with the normal aging process of the material.
A close inspection reveals some light scattered scuffs and a few surface scratches, as well as one minute dent on the tail, all commensurate with age and none of which are visually distracting.
The terrace presents with some abrasions and a few tiny dents along the edges.
Catalogue Note:
A similar model was exhibited on the stand of Édouard Marcel Sandoz at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in Paris, in 1923 and acquired by the French state. It is currently kept in the collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou and on deposit at the Musée des Années Trente in Boulogne-Billancourt (inv. AM 668 S.).
Provenance:
Hélène Rochas collection, Paris
