Édouard Marcel Sandoz Poisson Rouge or Cyprin bouche ouverte
Édouard Marcel Sandoz
1881 - 1971
Poisson Rouge or Cyprin bouche ouverte
Designed in 1920
Patinated bronze
Signed Ed. M. Sandoz on the tail
13,5 x 21,5 x 13 cm ; 5 ¼ x 8 ½ x 5 ⅛ in.
Condition Report:
Good overall condition.
The patinated bronze surface presents with minor surface irregularities, such as a few pinholes, which are inherent to the making.
The patinated bronze presents with areas of wear along with losses of patina mostly visible on the fish's body and the prominent parts, as well as some oxidation mainly in the recessed areas, under the mouth and around the fins, consistent with the normal aging process of the material.
The surface also presents with some abrasions in places, as well as a few minor dents, all commensurate with age and not visually distracting.
Close inspection reveals two tiny cracks under the tail probably inherent to the making and not affecting the stability of the piece.
Catalogue Note:
A similar model was exhibited on Édouard Marcel Sandoz’s stand at the exhibitions of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts and the Société des Artistes Décorateurs in Paris in 1920.
