Provenance: Anon. sale, Christie's, London, 3 Sept. 2008, lot 104. Note: Pritchett is best known for the atmospheric views of Venice which he produced in the three decades he spent living and working in the city. This piece is a typical example of his work, depicting the imposing interior of the Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the largest church in the city and a significant Venetian landmark.
