Edward Weston (American, 1886-1958)

Tomato Field, 1937, a later printing by Cole Weston. Stamped "NEGATIVE/BY/EDWARD WESTON/PRINT/BY" in black ink and signed "Cole Weston" in pencil on the verso of the mount at center, titled and dated in pencil on the verso of the mount u.r. Gelatin silver print, 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 in. (19.1 x 24.1 cm), matted, framed.
Condition: Mounted.

N.B. Edward Weston's fourth and youngest son, Cole, made prints from his father's original negatives for approximately forty years. Cole produced prints under Edward's direct supervision as the latter struggled with Parkinson's disease, and Cole was authorized by him to continue their production after his death. Each print was made according to Edward's specifications and created in the same format. Cole was an accomplished color photographer and maintained a balance between his own career and extending the influence of his father.
