Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Ellis, despite being a Nottingham-born painter, was best-known for his coastal scenes, ranging from rough and stormy seas to moored boats in calm coves, as in the present work. This piece exhibits the loose and Impressionistic brushstrokes which define Ellis’s approach, capturing the freedom and freshness of the British coast.
