Hard boards, original maroon cloth, decorated front board, gold lettering [some wear]; 5.3/4" x 8.3/4"; former owner's signature on the front endpaper, frontispiece double-page map of California, 400 pages including Index + plates on glossy paper, very good condition.

Edwin Markham (1852- 1940) was an American poet. From 1923 to 1931 he was Poet Laureate of Oregon. He wrote one of the most popular poems of all time; "The Man With the Hoe." In "California the Wonderful" Markham's poetic sensibilities make for compelling descriptions of the land and people of the West Coast of the United States.
