Egypt Steatite Scarab Amulet of Amenhotep III, ex-Mitry

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, Eighteenth Dynasty, ca. 1391 to 1351 BCE. A beautiful green steatite scarab. On its underside, hieroglyphs read, "Neb-Maat-Ra-Neb-Hor", meaning King Amenhotep lll, father of Akhenaton. Amenhotep III was the 9th pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty, one of the most influential pharaohs. It is perforated laterally for suspension. Size: 0.7" W (1.8 cm)

Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection; ex-Phillip Mitry collection, noted dealer in Cairo, Egypt until about 1951 when he emigrated to the United States
