Egyptian 25th Dynasty Gilt Bronze Seated Isis

Ancient Egypt, late Third Intermediate Period, 25th Dynasty, ca. 744 to 656 BCE. A graceful depiction of the goddess Isis in a seated pose, cast from leaded-bronze and embellished with glinting gilt. The goddess of magic, healing, and the moon, Isis wears an ankle-length dress and a tripartite wig with a frontal uraeus cobra while grasping her exposed left breast with her right hand. She holds her bent left arm out in a classic pose meant to support the back and head of her infant Horus as she feeds him. Her pensive visage peers forward with almond-shaped eyes and features a broad nose, full lips, and bulging cheeks, and above her wig is a plinth that once displayed her signature throne-shaped headdress emblem. Tangs beneath both feet and her posterior show how this figure once resided on a separately-cast throne. Thick layers of brown and green patina have formed across this figure, and areas of gilt remains a testament to the opulence this figure once displayed when first created. Condition Report: Original throne-shaped headdress element as well as infant Horus figure missing as shown. Damage to attachment tang beneath posterior. Stabilization to fissure beneath both knees with light adhesive. Nicks, abrasions, and encrustations to limbs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details, and wear to most gilding. Great patina throughout, and nice remains of gilding visible in scattered areas. Old inventory label beneath wooden display stand.
