Egyptian Beaded Necklace Wadjet Pendant, ex-Sotheby's

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1292 BCE. A stunning necklace of wearable form that is constructed with dozens of faience, carnelian, and shell beads. Several blue faience tube beads are strung along the beginning of each terminal and are interspersed with discoid shell beads and modern 14K gold beads. Along the lower terminals are 6 hand-carved carnelian beads among blue glass beads and additional 14K gold spacer beads, and the central pendant is a mold-formed wadjet (or Eye of Horus) covered in turquoise-hued glaze and bearing a black pupil. Size (necklace): 19.75" L (50.2 cm); (wadjet pendant): 1.18" W x 0.82" H (3 cm x 2.1 cm)

Condition Report: Wearable as shown and constructed in modern times. Faience, carnelian, and shell beads are ancient; stringing, 14K gold beads, and clasp are modern. Some beads with minor nicks and fading to glaze pigment, with petite indentations to some gold beads, otherwise intact and excellent. Great preservation to colors on most beads.
