Egyptian Blue-Glazed Hieroglyphic Shabti

Late Period, 525-332 BC. The upper section of a blue composition shabti figure with crossed arms, holding crook and flail, wearing wig and false beard, with semi-naturalistic facial detailing; the hieroglyphic inscription runs down the front of the figure below the hands continuing down the back of the wig and faintly indicated on the back pillar, the preserved inscription on the front of the figure reading: 'To illuminate, the Osiris……' This would have been followed by the name (and possibly the title) of the deceased on the now absent portion, and which appears to conclude on the back of the figure with an epithet at the top of the wig, followed by the incompletely preserved mother’s name (all difficult to read with any certainty): 'true of voice(?), born to Ami-tar(?)…..' 51 grams, 78mm high (3"). North London gentleman, in storage since the 1970s. Property of a West London gentleman. Accompanied by a specialist report written by Egyptologist Paul Whelan. [No Reserve]
