Egyptian Bronze Apis Bull Statue

Cast bronze statuette of the bull-god Apis striding on a rectangular pedestal. Animal with heavy dewlap, no sun-disk between the horns. Faint incisions on the back to render the usual winged scarab, a saddlecloth and an open-winged vulture. The Apis bull was worshipped as a manifestation of the Memphite creation god Ptah. The bull was therefore a kind of servant, who was himself divine. Size: L. 5. 5 cm, H. 4. 3 cm, H. with plinth 5. 4 cm. Material: Bronze.
