Egyptian Faience Amulet, Papyrus Sceptre

Green faience papyrus sceptre amulet shaped in the round with sagging shaft and open spreading head. Perforated ribbed loop for suspension on top. Ancient Egyptians associated the green of fresh vegetation with youthfulness, new life and resurrection. For examples in the Petrie Museum database, cf. UC38506 and UC38511. Size: H. 4. 9 cm Material: Faience Culture: Egyptian, Late Period, 26th-29th Dynasty, 664-332 BC Condition: Slight chipping at the flared top. Otherwise intact with attractive light green color. Provenance: Estate of Alfred L. Radinsky (†1906) , collected during his travels through Egypt 1876 to 1879. Thence art market Munich, June 2017 sale. Provenance data to the buyer.
