[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful pair of wearable earrings comprised of dozens of ancient Egyptian faience beads. The openwork ovoid bodies have tubular beads in the middle as well as surmounting a small gathering of seed beads on either upper end, and seed beads in vermilion, citrine, and turquoise hues are strung below. Another tube bead is situated between red and yellow-green beads, and a modern gold-filled French hook tops each accessory. The pendant of one earring depicts the baboon form of Thoth, the god of intelligence and writing, and the other shows Tauret (also Tawaret, Taweret), the hybrid hippopotamus protector goddess of women, children, and child birthing. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 2.75" H (7 cm); size of largest bead (Tauret): 0.7" H (1.8 cm).

Provenance: ex-private Dutch collection, acquired on the Amsterdam Art Market before 1983

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
