Egyptian Faience Bead Necklace w/ 15 Amulets

Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 18th to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 664 BCE. A beautiful necklace comprised of dozens and dozens of ancient faience beads in shades of blue, tan, and brown in both tubular and petite seed beads on 5 strands. Along the second and fourth strands, 15 faience amulets are interspersed. On the fourth strand are 8 medium blue djed amulets, a pillar-like symbol in Egyptian hieroglyphs representing stability and the spinal column. On the second strand from left to right are a Thoth (god of the moon, of reckoning, of learning, and of writing), Horus (the son of Osiris, the god of air and the Earth, and the goddess Isis), Horus, Khnum (god of fertility, associated with water and with procreation), Horus, Horus with solar disc, and Thoth. These 5 strands are attached using a modern 14K gold clasp. Size of longest strand: 26" L (66 cm).

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
