Egyptian Faience Ring Face & Steatite Scaraboid

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Middle Kingdom to New Kingdom period, 12th to 18th Dynasty, ca. 2040 to 1307 BCE; New Kingdom Period, 18th to 19th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1196 BCE. A lovely duo of ancient Egyptian artifacts. First is a large blue faience ring face, the topside seal comprised of a blossoming lotus flower; this is symbolic of rebirth and regeneration. Second is a carved steatite scaraboid, ovoid in composition and laterally perforated for suspension, with remnants of pale blue glaze. The topside is smooth and unadorned as are the lateral sides. The bottom exhibits a long-legged sphinx with an upraised head, a staff of Ra indicative of power, and the glyph "nefer," representative of goodness; this is an amulet of good fortune. Size of largest (ring face): 0.75" L (1.9 cm).

Provenance: ex-Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex-HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s
