Egyptian Gilt Copper-Silver Amulet of Osiris

Ancient Egypt, Third Intermediate to Late Dynastic Period, 21st to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1070 to 332 BCE. A molded figural amulet of Osiris, the god of the underworld, cast from a copper-silver alloy. The petite Osiris stands in mummiform, holds his signature flagellum and heka scepter in hands crossed atop his chest, and has an integral suspension loop behind his back. His head presents with almond-shaped eyes above a broad nose, puffy cheeks, a plaited false beard, and an Atef crown with a pair of ostrich feathers and a frontal uraeus. A thin layer of gilding covers the entire figure, and thick, russet-hued patina has formed around his neck and crown. Size: 0.375" W x 1.3" H (1 cm x 3.3 cm); quality of copper-silver alloy: 58.5% copper, 38.4% silver; total weight: 4.7 grams.
