Egyptian Glazed Faience Figure of Bastet

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience figure of Bastet (also Bast), goddess of cats. She stands nude with delineated legs in front of an integral dorsal pillar and holds both lengthy arms to her sides. Her feline head sits high atop her gently tapered shoulders and exhibits a squat snout, petite eyes within puffy orbitals, and a pair of perky ears. The figure is covered in layers of sage green glaze and has a biconically drilled suspension hole behind her body, suggesting this was worn as a pendant at one time. Size: 0.8" W x 3.9" H (2 cm x 9.9 cm)

Condition Report: Repaired from a few large pieces, with areas of infill material along the back and peripheries, and small chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Chips to face, feet, ears, and body, with coarse surface texture commensurate with age, and fading to glaze pigment across most surfaces. Nice preservation to overall form.
