Egyptian Glazed Faience Pendant of Qebehsenuef

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A beautiful and lustrous blue faience pendant showing the falcon-headed deity Qebehsenuef in profile. The deity is mold formed and displays an upright posture, with an object clasped in his hands that extends to his ankles. This pendant perhaps represents a fabric wrapping used in mummification and is pierced at top and bottom for attachment. The Four Sons of Horus, also known as the Four Children of Horus - Qebehsenuef, Duamutef, Hapi, and Amset - protected the vital organs of the body after mummification. Qebehsenuef guarded the intestines which were suspectable to poison. Size: 1.65" L x 0.65" W (4.2 cm x 1.7 cm)
