Egyptian Glazed Faience Scarab Amulet - ex Mitry

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 1189 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet in the form of a scarab beetle. The insectile features along the top include a folded wing carapace, retracted legs, and a petite head. The bottom features three inscribed hieroglyphic symbols that read, "Hor-Kheper-Uraeus," meaning, "Glory to Horus the sacred hawk, beloved of Kheper, protected by the Uraeus." The amulet is perforated longitudinally, and traces of original blue and green glaze cover the composition. Size: 0.625" L x 0.4" W (1.6 cm x 1 cm)
Provenance: private Orange County, California, USA collection; ex-Phillip Mitry collection, noted dealer in Cairo, Egypt until about 1951 when he emigrated to the United States
