Egyptian Glazed Faience Ushabti w/ Inscription

**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A mold-formed faience ushabti that stands in mummiform atop an integral rectangular plinth and bears lustrous turquoise-hued glaze. The figure bears fused legs inscribed with six lines of hieroglyphic symbols, holds a pick and hoe in crossed arms, and has a seed bag incised behind the left shoulder. Almond-shaped eyes with elongated canthi, a plaited false beard, and a petite chin constitute the peaceful countenance, and topping the head is a striated tripartite wig with lengthy lappets. Size: 1.875" W x 6.3" H (4.8 cm x 16 cm); 7.6" H (19.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Akron, Ohio, USA collection, acquired in 1985

Condition Report: Repaired from multiple pieces, with chips and losses to some areas, and heavy adhesive residue along break lines. Modern metal bar within repaired pieces for structural stability. Nicks and abrasions to legs, body, and head, with softening to some finer details and most hieroglyphic characters, minor pitting and bubbling commensurate with elevated kilning temperature, fading and darkening to original glaze color, and light encrustations. Faint but attractive remains of original glaze throughout.
