Egyptian Jar with Cartouche of Thutmosis IV

18th Dynasty, 1401-1391 BC or 1397-1388 BC. A New Kingdom blue glazed flat bottomed jar with four loops under a wide rim, each with three ribs detailed in black; to one side two lotus flowers, one open and one closed; to the other side two vertical lines of hieroglyphs, the right hand being the throne name of King Thutmosis IV. 223 grams, 93mm (3 3/4"). From an early 20th century collection. Thutmosis IV was the 8th Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty of Egypt, who ruled in approximately the 14th century BC. His prenomen or royal name, Menkheperure, means 'Established in forms is Re.' Thutmosis's most celebrated accomplishment was the restoration of the Sphinx at Giza and subsequent commission of the Dream Stele.
