Egyptian Late Dynastic Faience Amulet of Anubis

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. An attractive mold-formed faience amulet of a petite size depicting Anubis, the god of the dead and the process of embalming. Anubis stands in a striding pose atop an integral plinth, holds rigid arms to his sides, and displays his characteristic jackal-form head with pointed ears and a narrow snout. The pendant is enveloped in lustrous turquoise-hued glaze, and a biconically-drilled suspension hole is situated behind the shoulders. Size: 0.5" W x 1.6" H (1.3 cm x 4.1 cm); 2.6" H (6.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-estate of Roy Green, Birmingham, Alabama acquired before 2015 from major New York galleries

Condition Report: Repair to one ear, with light adhesive residue along break line. Minor nicks to head, body, and legs, with softening to some finer details, and light fading to original glaze color. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
