Egyptian Late Period Variegated Granite Jar

Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. A beautiful jar of a tall and elegant form, hand-carved from variegated, tan-hued granite with ample black inclusions. The cylindrical vessel rests upon a round but stable base and has a slightly corseted profile, a thick rim encircling the top, and a meticulously drilled interior cavity that still retains evidence of the original drilling striations. The interior and exterior still bear an incredibly smooth texture that creates an elegant presentation, both from a visual and tactile approach. Size: 3" W x 5.8" H (7.6 cm x 14.7 cm).

Condition Report: Repaired from multiple pieces, with light in-fill in areas of chipping and loss, with resurfacing and light adhesive residue along new material and break lines. Nicks to rim, body, and base, and light encrustations within body. Great smooth texture throughout. Old inventory labels on upper body and beneath base.
