Egyptian New Kingdom Alabaster Jar

Egypt, New Kingdom, 18th to 20th Dynasty, ca. 1550 to 1076 BCE. A hefty jar carved from honey yellow alabaster with a round but stable base, a hemispherical lower body, a planar shoulder surrounding a broad neck base, and a flared rim around encircling the basin. The Egyptians were master carvers and used the abundant stone deposits in the Nile Valley and the Eastern Sahara to fashion sculptures, vessels, and monumental buildings; the perfect symmetry of this example demonstrates their skill. Condition Report: Repaired from multiple large pieces, with chips and losses along interior break lines, and resurfacing along exterior break lines. Minor nicks and abrasions to rim, shoulder, body, and base, with light encrustations, and a few stable fissures. Nice earthen deposits within basin. Old inventory labels beneath base.
