Egyptian Polychrome Sphinx Scarab Seal
Large Egyptian-style glazed terracotta scarab seal modeled with a sphinx-form human head and recumbent body. The surface retains attractive multicolor glaze in warm ochre, reddish-brown, cream, and darker accents, with an aged patina throughout. The underside is extensively decorated with carved hieroglyphic-style figures and symbols arranged in registers. Age and origin are unverified; catalog conservatively as Egyptian-style unless supported by provenance. Measures: 2-3/4" L x 1-1/2" W x 2-1/2" H. Provenance: From the Estate of Carmine Vito “Tod” Todisco (1930–2025), founder and CEO of Northern Plastics Corp., a Syracuse-area manufacturer specializing in fiberglass furniture and commercial products. Todisco was also a collector of cultural artifacts, antiques and art.
