Egyptian Ptolemaic Faience Vase w/ Linear Motifs
Egypt, Ptolemaic period, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A lovely mold-formed faience vase of a petite size with a flat base, a tall, ovoid body with a carination along the lower half, a tapered neck, and a flared rim surrounding a deep interior cavity. The exterior surface is covered in light-blue powder pigment that has faded to a soft white hue, though some areas of original blue pigment are visible just beneath the rim exterior. Applied black pigment forms sections of zigzagging lines alternating between straight bars, frets surrounding the rim, and petaloid forms encircling the lower body just above the base. Size: 1.8" W x 3.5" H (4.6 cm x 8.9 cm).
