A carved red breccia tool for use in the mummification(?) process with lentoid-section blade with roughly flat-section smoothing or scraping edge, lentoid-section shaft and butt with rounded edge, with old inked collection number 388 to the reverse. 455 grams, 16.5cm (6 1/2"). Property of an important London collector; previously with Gorny & Mosch, Munich, Germany, 24 June 2008, lot 415; formerly from the Spanish art market since 1995; acquired from Christie's East, New York, 2 March 1995, lot 59; accompanied by scholarly note TL05409 by Dr Ronald Bonewitz.
