Egyptian Squatting Bes Amulet
Late Period, 664-332 BC. A glazed composition amulet depicting squatting Bes on a rectangular base, hands resting on his knees, leonine facial features with distinctive eyebrows, beard and broad nose, lion's mane detailing to the rear with lion's tail curving to the side; small suspension loop to the back. 11.3 grams, 34mm (1 1/4"). Property of a London lady; from her family collection formed in the 1970s.
