Egyptian Steatite Senet Game Piece

Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Late Dynastic Period, 20th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 1189 to 332 BCE. A hand-carved steatite game piece of dark, chocolate brown hues used in the Egyptian game known as Senet. The conical game piece features a flat base, gently corseted walls, and a hemispherical top surface, all exhibiting incredibly smooth surface textures. Senet was perhaps the most popular game from ancient Egyptian times and is said to have simulated the journey of the soul through the afterlife on its quest for immortality.
