Egyptian Stone Head of a Pharaoh

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful head of an unidentified pharaoh carved from mottled green-black hardstone with inclusions in hues sage green. Presenting a dignified visage, the pharaonic face bears almond-shaped eyes with elongated exterior canthi, a slender nose with flared nostrils, full lips with indented corners, and a false beard suspended with an incised chinstrap. Tall ears flank the base of the headdress that rests low on the forehead, and the neckline suggests this head was once part of a larger figure. Size: 0.8" W x 2.3" H (2 cm x 5.8 cm); 3.9" H (9.9 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
