A choice Egyptian sandstone Canopic jar lid representing Imsety, New Kingdom, c. 1570 - 1075 BC, wearing wide feathered wig, his facial features well cut in fine style. Imsety was one of the Four Sons of Horus who protected the internal organs of the deceased, Imsety protected the liver. 6 7/8 x 5 1/2 x 4 3/4 in (17.5 x 14 x 12.2 cm). Light abrading and mineral deposits, custom circular lucite base. Ex collection of Joseph Hirschhorn, thence by descent.
