Egyptian scarab depicting a Sphinx trampling enemy
A nice Egyptian steatite scarab depicting a Sphinx trampling enemy, Late New Kingdom, c. 1200 - 1075 BC, the body nicely carved, on base a sphinx strides to the right over the struggling foe, Nefer sign above, amuletic cartouche of Thutmose III 'Men Kheper ra' before. 17 x 15.5 mm. Drilled lengthwise for suspension. Cf. Jaeger 1982, p. 153 for a dating of this type. Ex collection of Gustave Mustaki, Alexandria, acquired in the mid-1900's.
