Elbaite (Tourmaline) Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan 11.5 x 4.1 x 2.9 cm (4.52 x 1.61 x 1.14 in) A striking cabinet specimen dominated by a single sizable, lustrous, heavily striated Elbaite crystal, measuring 10.6 centimeters in length, with a handful of smaller Elbaites around its base. The most prominent of these small crystals acutely stretches from the bottom of the specimen and is quite gemmy. Both Elbaites have a rich blue-green color with grass-green zoning at their pyramidal terminations. The base of the main crystal dramatically darkens, giving a complementary black to olive-green tint to the specimen's overall epicenter. From the collection of John Warn [AFG0545f].
