Elbaite (Tourmaline) Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan 21.1 x 5.5 x 3.8 cm (8.31 x 2.17 x 1.50 in) ...
Elbaite (Tourmaline) Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan 21.1 x 5.5 x 3.8 cm (8.31 x 2.17 x 1.50 in) Substantial cathedral-shaped column of colorful, sub-parallel Elbaite crystals that architecturally ascend to a city scape of nicely formed, complex terminations at the specimen's pinnacle. The gemmy, white and grass-green zoning punctuates each of the terminations, setting them apart from the Tourmaline's main, translucent, pink structure to give the piece a more three-dimensional presentation. While most of the specimen's front side is lined with glistening striations and smoother prismatic faces, the reverse is heavily striated and lined with several smaller, secondary Elbaites.
