Elbaite (Tourmaline) Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan 6.6 x 3.1 x 2.7 cm (2.60 x 1.22 x 1.06 in) ...
Elbaite (Tourmaline) Paprok, Kamdesh District, Nuristan, Afghanistan 6.6 x 3.1 x 2.7 cm (2.60 x 1.22 x 1.06 in) This complete, doubly terminated Elbaite crystal is surrounded by numerous terminated parallel growths that lend the specimen a remarkably sculptural form. The crystal is highly lustrous and translucent, with a vivid pink interior that transitions upward into a pale green zone before culminating in a dusky pink cap across the more complex upper terminations. The lower termination is accented by a delicate blue layer, adding an unexpected variation to the crystal's color zoning. Small associations of Elbaite and white Albite are attached along one side of the specimen, introducing a subtle textural to the overall display. From the collection of John Warn [AFG1990a].
