Elbaite (Tourmaline) San Piero in Campo, Campo nell'Elba, Livorno Province, Tuscany, Italy 6.4 x 5.6 x 4.2 cm (2.52 x 2.20 x 1.65 in) A striking specimen featuring a single beautifully terminated, prismatic, transparent, bi-color crystal of Elbaite from none other than the species' type-locality and namesake: Elba Island. The crystal measures 1.3 centimeters in length and is presented atop a nicely contrasting white matrix composed of Feldspar with a small number of surrounding Quartz points. Half of the crystal has a lighter yellow-green hue that shifts to a light pink throughout the Elbaite's upper portion. Contrary to its lustrous, striated prismatic faces, the Elbaite's termination has a more modest, frosted appearance. From the collection of John Warn [ITA1994a].
