Elbaite (Tourmaline) and Cleavelandite Mawi pegmatite, Nilaw-Kolum pegmatite field, Nuristan, Afghanistan 4.5 x 3.3 x 2.7 cm (1.77 x 1.30 x 1.06 in) This elegant miniature specimen features a gemmy Elbaite crystal rising from a sharply contrasting matrix of Cleavelandite. The Tourmaline is transparent and highly lustrous, displaying a delicate pink core surrounded by pale green zoning that becomes especially apparent toward the crystal's glassy, fully terminated apex. The complete termination provides a clear view into the crystal's internal color zoning, adding depth to its presentation. The base is composed of thin, translucent blades of Cleavelandite whose bright white color and vitreous luster provide an attractive contrast to the Elbaite.
