Elegant 12th C. Korean Koryo Stoneware Vessel

East Asia, Korea, Kingdom of Goryeo (Koryo), ca. 12th century CE. A beautiful wheel-thrown glazed pottery vessel of a characteristically simple yet elegant form comprised of a ring base, an elongated globular body leading to a short, gently tapering tubular neck, and a carinated mouth with a flared rim. The glaze on this example is a matte red-brown and gives a textured appearance to the vessel. An attractive example of utilitarian Korean artistry!
