Elegant jade vase with lid and pedestal, Qing dynasty

An elegant lidded jade vase of uniform pale celadon tone, Qing dynasty (1644 and 1912), with a wooden stand. The body of the vase or teapot is finely carved on both sides, with a large relief of the Chinese character 'HU' in the centre, surrounded by winding leaf stems.

The delicate, slightly curled handle is formed by a dragon in ancient form held by a small ruyi at the top, also in the shape of a small dragon, which links the delicate handle to the body, its tail divided at the bottom is also attached to the body. Suspended from the spout at its base is a small handle from which hangs an elegant loose ring. The domed cover or lid of the vase has six carved leaves that match the central details of the body, and ends with a large button at the top, which makes it easy to open when in use.

The square base, slightly oval in its long sections, fits perfectly on the reddish-coloured wooden base, which is covered at the top with a border and the lower part is completely carved.

Size without base: 18.7 x 14 x 5.7 cm; Weight jade: 615 gr

Provenance: Current French private collection. -Previous owner of lot: 92, (Carved spinach green jade vase, Qing dynasty) Auction: Asian Art Auction 29 December 2022. Darley Auctions.
