UNITED KINGDOM. Elizabeth II, 1952-2022.
Gold Sovereign, 1957. Royal Mint.
First, laureate head of Elizabeth II facing right; ELIZABETH . II . DEI . GRATIA . REGINA . F: D: +. Design by Mary Gillick. / St. George on horseback rearing right, dragon below, date and B.P. in exergue. Design by Benedetto Pistrucci. Edge milled.

The 1957 Sovereign marked the return of regular Sovereign production after a break of nearly twenty-five years. Throughout the absence, overseas demand had persisted, driving the coin’s price above its gold value and attracting sophisticated counterfeiters from Switzerland to Lebanon.
