The 1980 Sovereign bears Arnold Machin’s portrait of Elizabeth II opposite Pistrucci’s St George and the Dragon. Issued as a bullion coin, it belongs to the early years of Sovereign production at the Royal Mint’s Llantrisant facility.

Although the date is common, examples in such high grade are considerably harder to find. Graded NGC MS67, the present coin is one of nine recorded at this level, with just two certified finer at MS68
