Ellen Theophila Simpson (XIX) - Miniature Illustrations

A delightful leaf from a sketch album attributed to Ellen Theophila Simpson, circa 1888. filled front and verso with wonderful watercolour illustrations of carefully executed silhouettes painted in black, insects, birds, and fairy folk. E T Simpson was known as a porcelain designer and the drawings on this leaf come from a pair of partial albums, one containing China designs and the other these fictional watercolours. See images 1j to 1l. They are wonderfully executed by a very talented watercolour illustrator.
