Movement: Gilt brass with cylinder escapement, finely pierced and engraved cock and foot, silvered regulator dial, finely pierced and engraved decorative pillars, chain fusee, signed
Case-Maker: Inner case stamped HT, Inner dust cover, signed
Outer case of finely sculptured repousee in high relief, five piece hinge, depicting the scene of "Erminia and the Shepherds". It is taken from the popular poem "Jerusalem Delivered" by Torquato Tasso. The story is set during the First Crusade (1095-99) when the Christian warriors laid siege to Jerusalem which was then under Muslim rule. Erminia, the Muslim Princess is disguised under the armour she is wearing and flees Jerusalem. Whilst she is escaping through the forest she meets a shepherd and his children making baskets. Erminia then reveals her true self by removing her helmet and initially startles the Sheperds, but soon they befriend her and help give her shelter.
