second edition with additions, small folio (271 x 176mm.), title within decorative border, engraved portrait frontispiece, 6 folding woodcut and letterpress diagrams (one of which 3 sheets joined), some early manuscript notes on some leaves, modern half calf, marbled boards, speckled red edges, initial licence leaf extended, some other repairs to early leaves, folding diagrams torn and repaired, the last slightly chipped, some spotting and staining

This is a reissue of the 1650 first edition (lot 138), with a cancel title page and the addition of the portrait and "The postures of the musket". Spaulding & Karpinski record that "this work, along with Bariffe's [Military Discipline], formed the foundation for the military system of the American colonies".
