Ever the dutiful son, Elvis Presley promised his beloved mother Gladys that he would avoid flying in airplanes as much as possible to keep her from worrying about his safety. In November 1957, he sailed to Honolulu, Hawaii from Oakland, California aboard the S.S. Matsonia on a four-day journey. Presley inscribed the book to Reino Heija, a bedroom steward on the ship.
