Elegant and refined bronze sculpture of a woman standing with her dog, signed Truffot (1843-1895) . It is in an excellent condition and is mounted on a rotating base. Émile Louis Truffot, born in Valenciennes on 26 July 1843, enrolled in the École des Beaux-Arts at the age of nineteen. Truffot made his debut at the salon one year later. He was a pupil of Francisque Duret when he sculpted, to commemorate the struggle of the shepherd Jean-Baptiste Jupille with a rabid dog, a bronze sculpture presented under the vault of the mortuary crypt of Louis Pasteur and represented on the obverse of the five-franc note issued on May 5, 1966 by the Banque de France and in circulation until 1972. He is also responsible for the Monument to Bougainville adorning the facades of the Paris city hall. He was buried in Paris in the Père-Lachaise cemetery (15th division) Literature: - Pierre Kjellberg "Bronzes of the 19th century" p. 634. Height: 66 cm (with base) / 60 cm (without base)
