Europe, Austria, ca. early 20th century CE. A spectacular pair of Empire Revival candlesticks, the brass Sphinxes perched on marble plinths with gilt brass appliques and moulding above the black marble base. The copper cap under the tails are both stamped "Made in Austria." Size: 4" L x 2.125" W x 8.25" H (10.2 cm x 5.4 cm x 21 cm)

Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982

Condition Report: Nicks and chips to marble, larger chip on corner of base on one. Some fading to gilt, but otherwise in great condition with signs of use and remains of wax in sconce.
