Empire table clock. France, ca. 1806.
Gilt bronze.
In good condition.
Measurements: 54 x 37 x 15 cm.
French table clock of Empire style and period. All of it is made in bronze, with a sculptural concept typical of this time. It is a piece of classic aesthetics, with a base decorated with a large scallop. Above it rises a classical structure as a plinth that houses the clock face (with Roman numerals in black and Breguet hands, with the dial framed in a garland), embellished with cornucopias and supported on legs that take the form of dolphins. The clock is crowned by a round figure representing the god of the sea, Poseidon, holding his trident next to a pitcher pouring water.
