Empire era fish slice in sterling silver. Lovely, finely carved openwork model with ebony handle. The shape also lends itself well for use as a pie slicer. The slicer has several hallmarks, confirming that it was made in the late 18th or very early 19th century. - silversmiths’ association hallmark in use after the abolition of the Farmers General hallmarks (1793) . This is often seen accompanied by older hallmarks, such as the rooster or the old man. - 2nd rooster 1st grade Paris hallmark guaranteeing a 950/1000 silver alloy, with the Paris medium warranty hallmark stamp in use at that time. - old man 1st grade Paris hallmark with the large guarantee hallmark of Paris in use at that time - silversmith’s hallmark, not yet identified.
