English Classical Maiden Marble Sculpture by Physick

An antique English carved marble portrait bust sculpture depicts young woman with floral crown, en verso signed Robert Physick as photographed, c1863 Measures - 20" h x 14" w x 8" d, bs: 7" diamADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Born 9 November 1815Died 2 September 1882Active: 1837 - 1881Country of birth and death: EnglandSculptor, carverBorn in Marylebone, London, he was baptised on 17 January 1816. He was the son of Edward William Physick (c.1774-1862) and brother to Charles (born 1810) and Edward Gustavus (1802-75). Robert entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1837 where he won a silver medal in 1840. He had two sons, Robert Physick (born c. 1841) who became a painter and William Physick (born c.1843) who became a sculptor. In the Census Returns of 1871 his name is given as Thomas although it is clear from the name of his spouse and children that this is Robert.
